Welcome to the Halloween season! Here are all the ookiest, spookiest, and most gothic events in and around Pittsburgh this October!

Romero Lives!
[film + more, multiple days]

On October 1, 1968, an obscure Pittsburgh film made its debut at the Byham Theater in downtown Pittsburgh. No one knew this film would change horror films and zombies forever.

The 50th anniversary celebration kicked off with a screening of Night of the Living Dead at Row House Cinema in Lawrenceville. Read the full list of events taking place in Pittsburgh throughout the month of October at romerolives.net (a few are also listed below).

7 p.m. – midnight, Wed.-Sun., Oct. 3 – Nov. 3.

This Halloween season, Downtown Pittsburgh welcomes Zombie Den: Bar of the Living Dead, a unique pop-up bar that marks the 50th anniversary of George A. Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” and the zombie pop culture it inspired.

To create Zombie Den, ScareHouse teamed up with the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and The Original Oyster House, as well as restaurant experts Michael McCoy and Brian Laing.

The bar opens Oct. 3 in The Original Oyster House in Market Square. Patrons can take part in the apocalyptic experience from 7 p.m. to midnight Wednesdays through Sundays until Nov. 3.

Coven is a weekly dance night at Belvedere’s in Lawrenceville that features new and classic dark dance music every Thursday, with rotating guest DJs.

The guest for Oct. 4 is DJ Circuitry (Ceremony/Electro-Retro/Obsidian), spinning industrial/goth/post punk/new wave/witchhouse. $3 until 11pm / $5 after 11.

The Glow at Hartwood Acres features an enchanting and unforgettable wonderland of more than 5,000 hand carved, illuminated pumpkins transformed into beautiful landscapes, iconic figures and larger than life structures.

The Demon Barber of Fleet Street arrives at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland, PA. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, barber Sweeney Todd returns to London seeking revenge in this musical thriller hailed as one of the true masterpieces of musical theater. (Recommended for mature audiences.)

Lincoln Park has also transformed their BlackBox into Mrs. Lovett’s Meat Pie Shop, featuring the best pies in Midland from Prohibition Pastries! The Pie Shop will be open two hours before curtain, during intermission, and for a half hour after the performance is over for the entire run of Sweeney Todd.

Tribute Fest Pgh 9 is four nights of local musicians joining forces to dress up in character and perform as their favorite bands, all to raise money for Humane Animal Rescue. This year there are 33 bands over 4 nights.
